North Yorkshire Police Authority is an independent body, created on 1 April 1995. The area served by the Authority and the North Yorkshire Police Force comprises the North Yorkshire County Council and the City of York areas. This is one of the largest geographical policing areas in the country.
The Authority's Primary Responsibilities are:
The Authority works with the Chief Constable to prepare a 3 year strategy for the development of the service and an annual Policing Plan which sets out the way in which the Chief Constable will police the area having regard to the Home Secretary's national policing priorities and the local priorities determined by the Police Authority. This document is called NY Policing Plan.
The Authority also has its own Business Plan outlining the Authority's vision, mission, objectives and priorities for improvement.
North Yorkshire Police Authority has announced that Assistant Chief Constable David Collins has retired from the police service after more than 30 years' service.
An awards ceremony celebrating the fantastic work of Police Officers in North Yorkshire took place on Friday evening (26 June).
