North Yorkshire Police have launched a campaign targeting criminals living off the proceeds of crime - with local communities benefiting from the proceeds.

Under section 6 of the Police Act 1996 as inserted by new section 6ZB of the Police and Justice Act 2006, before the beginning of each financial year police authorities and forces are required to issue a Policing Plan setting out:

North Yorkshire Police Authority is an independent body, created on 1 April 1995. The area served by the Authority and the North Yorkshire Police Force comprises the North Yorkshire County Council and the City of York areas. This is one of the largest geographical policing areas in the country.

The Authority's Primary Responsibilities are:

To secure an efficient and effective police service on behalf of the local community
To consult with the local community about its policing needs and priorities
To hold the Chief Constable to account for police performance, on behalf of local people
To ensure that there is continuous improvement in the delivery of the police service in our area

The Authority works with the Chief Constable to prepare a 3 year strategy for the development of the service and an annual Policing Plan which sets out the way in which the Chief Constable will police the area having regard to the Home Secretary's national policing priorities and the local priorities determined by the Police Authority. This document is called North Yorkshire Policing Plan.

The Authority also has its own word icon NYPA Business Plan 2009-12 [123kb] outlining the Authority's vision, mission, objectives and priorities for improvement. Progress against the plan is regularly reported to, and annually updated by, the Police Authority Management Board.
